Exclusive Hunger Games Content for the Release of Beastly

Picture
The DVD of the Lionsgate movie Beastly comes out in the US at the end of this month.  For those in the UK, the release date is the end of August… and it seems that means, that Lionsgate can give fans in the UK a sneak peek of The Hunger Games movie.

A Hunger Games fan told fellow fansites The Hob and Down with the Capitol that an image of the UK DVD cover of Beastly features a sticker that states, “The Hunger  Games exclusive content included” while there’s no such sticker on the US release copy.

No word yet from Lionsgate on whether it’s true or not or just what the content might include.   It’s exciting to know that in just a few short weeks we’ll be able to see what The Hunger Games movie looks like.

Jennifer Lawrence Records Song For Hunger Games

Picture
It’s been reported that Jennifer Lawrence was brought in to sing a “haunting song” – apparently for The Hunger Games movie.  According to Echo Mountain Recording, T. Bone Burnett is the music supervisor for The Hunger  Games.  They say he flew to North Carolina to work on some of the music for the movie, including a piece that Jennifer sang.
T. Bone brought actress Jennifer Lawrence in to sing a haunting song he had written.  The day they came in was the first day of shooting for the film but T. Bone had been working on the music for some time.  He was one of the nicest, most genuine people   we have had the pleasure of working with.

It sounds like Jennifer will be singing the lullaby that Katniss sang to Rue when the young girl is dying.

It’s  great news that T. Bone Burnett is working on music for the movie.  His past work  includes films such as Crazy Heart, Across the Universe, O Brother Where Art  Thou?, Cold Mountain, and Walk the Line.

Will The Hunger Games be at this Years Comic Con?

Picture
As we reported the other day, there’s talk of a Hunger Games comic - news of which is rumored to be unveiled at Comic Con 2011 next month. It was also rumored that there may be some sneak peeks of The Hunger Games movie at the San Diego event.

The Hunger Games Examiner decided to get in touch with Lionsgate to see if they can find out what’s being planned.

“Our Comic Con plans aren’t locked yet,” Lionsgate tells The Hunger Games Examiner. “But we will be  sure to keep everyone posted.”

Besides the potential of The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has a lot of  upcoming films that would be a good fit for Comic Con, held July 21-24 this  year, such as the remake of Conan the Barbarian and Abduction, starring Taylor Lautner.

Comic Con has traditionally been a popular venue for debuting sneak peeks at  upcoming franchises, such as The Twilight Saga, Iron Man, Tron:  Legacy, and comic book adaptations like Thor and Coyboys &  Aliens.

Filming on The Hunger Games only began in late May, so it seems  unlikely that Lionsgate will already have something ready to share at Comic Con  in July — but many fans are optimistic. If not any actual footage, some hope  that Lionsgate will at least unveil new still images from the movie, or perhaps  character portraits of Gale and/or Peeta, much like the recent Entertainment  Weekly cover that showed Jennifer Lawrence in costume as Katniss.

Hunger Games Spoiler Alert!
Changes made to The Hunger Games Movie Script

Picture
Yet another media outlet claims to have their hands on The Hunger Games script.  Life & Style say they’ve exclusively obtained it and can reveal the “juicy details of how the story’s been changed for the big screen.

But here’s what Life & Style have to say:

Like Twilight, the most addictive part of the saga will be the love triangle between its three stars, played by sexy newcomers X-Men: First Class star Jennifer Lawrence, The Kids Are All Right’s Josh Hutcherson and Miley Cyrus’ on-and-off again beau Liam Hemsworth. But in The Hunger Games book, the first in Suzanne Collins’ series, Liam’s character is largely absent since he doesn’t compete in the Hunger Games (an annual staged fight to the death between one teen boy and one teen girl). Life & Style can reveal that in the script, scenes have been added in to give the heartthrob a larger role on-screen and make the love triangle steamier and a bigger aspect early on in the franchise.

And while the book is mainly set inside the Arena, where the characters battle in The Hunger Games, moviegoers will also get to see behind-the-scenes moments set outside the stadium, showcasing the fighters’ mentor Haymitch, played by Woody Harrelson.

Tim Taylor Cast as Gamemaker

Picture

The latest casting news for The Hunger Games movie comes from Geek Tyrant.  They’re reporting that  Tim Taylor  (Possum Walk, Archaic Redemption), has joined the cast as the Gamemaker

As they describe it, the Gamemaker is the “computer tech that controls the action during the games”.

Hopefully we’ll have official word soon from Lionsgate.

First Look at Katniss in Costume

Picture
Entertainment Weekly gave everyone a sneak peak of how Jennifer Lawrence looks in costume as Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming The Hunger Games movie. The print edition of EW will be on newstands in the US on Friday. But luckily, for those fans who can’t get a hold of a copy, some of those images have been posted online.

In a free-wheeling interview, Lawrence describes her first encounter with Ross last winter, during the height of Oscar season. “He was asking me what the experience was like,” she recalls, “and I just kind of opened up and said, ‘I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.’ And we both started laughing because that’s exactly what it’s like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who’s all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like ‘Oh, no, I don’t belong here.”

Just In!  Katniss and Peeta's Prep Team

Picture
Lionsgate has today announced two more cast members for The Hunger Games movie - the stylists for Katniss and Peeta.

Latarsha Rose will play Portia, the stylist assigned to Peeta, while Brooke Bundy will play Octavia, a member of the prep team that helps style Katniss.  We still don’t know who will play Cinna, the stylist assigned to District 12,  and one of the most-anticipated cast decisions still to be revealed.

The role of the stylists and prep teams is to help all of the tributes taking part in the Hunger Games to dress and prepare for public events.  Cinna and Portia work together to create the flaming outfits that introduce Peeta and Katniss to the Hunger Games audience.

Latarsha Rose has had a variety of small roles over the last several years, including appearances on TV shows such as Law & Order, CSI: NY, All My Children, and The Cape, while Brooke Bundy has appeared in two short films, and also has a role in the small movie Without.

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) Talks About The Hunger Games

Picture
Tom Felton is known to Harry Potter fans as the evil Draco Malfoy.  He chatted to 24Frames about the influence the film series has had on the young adult market, believing it’s got a lot to do with a bunch of new “tween” films about to hit our screens. Find the film at the bottom of this!

Interview Quotes:
“I think ['Harry Potter'] certainly helped” pave the way for movies such as “Hunger Games,” Felton said at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, where he was on hand to present new footage from “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”

“I think one of the great things about what ["Harry Potter" book author] Jo Rowling has done is she’s made literacy and reading kind of cool again. And that allows the way for lots of these other franchises to kind of come through,” he said.

First Look at the new Peacekeepers

Picture
The Hunger Games movie crew is about to head out of Sheby, NC, where they’ve been filming a bunch of District 12 scenes. Here’s a peek at what the Peacekeepers look like. (left)

Meantime the locals at Shelby say they will be sad to see everyone move on. The Charlotte Observer reports on the excitement The Hunger Games brought to Shelby and on the economic benefits a major film production can bring to a town.

According to Jackie Sibley, director of Tour Cleveland County, the current  project “brings a new level of excitement…”

She said moviemakers picked Shelby because they were  looking for warehouse space and “we’ve got a lot of that here.”

The movie’s economic impact has been significant.

“All the hotels are full,” Sibley said. “They’ve hired off-duty police  officers. They’re renting space, eating at local restaurants. They’re spending a  lot of dollars.”

Jeanette Sun, 42, owner of Ni Fen Wine and Tapas  met “The Hunger Games” cast member Elizabeth Banks, who came by a few minutes before Ni Fen closed one night.

Although Banks didn’t stick around, movie crew members visit in the  afternoons “to use the Wi-Fi and chill out,” Sun said. “They’re very nice.”

Chris Canoutas, owner of Pleasant City Wood Fired Grille, said crews are regulars at his place.

“They come in for lunch and late dinner, just to wind down,” he said. “I’ve seen a 15 percent increase in business, at least, Anything that brings people downtown we’re for it.”

Latest Interview with Katniss

Picture

Hot of the press the latest interview with Jennifer Lawrence, now known as Katniss. Pop Press has got all the news:

PW: I’m curious — how did your training for “X-Men” and “Hunger Games” compare?

Jennifer: Katniss training is a lot more fun. The “X-Men” training was kind of like two grueling hours every day, but “Hunger Games” is more fun. It’s running and jumping and rock climbing and combat and all these really cool things. It’s longer – like 4 hours a day – but I don’t realize that I’m working out … until I pass out [laughs].

PW: I have to tell you, I read “The Hunger Games” after we met last June and pictured you as Katniss the entire time.

Jennifer: Really? That’s so cool!

PW: By this point, everyone and their mother is foaming at the mouth with excitement about the movies, but what excites you about them?

Jennifer: I love that it’s kind of this sick look at our world that’s obsessed with reality TV and obsessed with brutality. We’ve become so numb to the shock factor. We see people die on TV now, we see dead bodies and blood on the nightly news. I mean, the things people can find on YouTube are crazy! We’re so desensitized to it all now. Also the message of history repeating itself. Then there are these scenes where it honestly looks like gladiators. Roman History – people murdering other people for nothing more than entertainment. I just think all of that is genius and hard hitting and fascinating.

PW: Which of the three books are you most excited to film?
Jennifer: Probably “Mockingjay,” with “Hunger Games” a close second. I say that because in “Mockingjay” I get to be Joan of Arc. Except I live to tell the tale!

The Hunger Games Latest Wrap-Up

Over at PopSugar they’ve wrapped up all the action from The Hunger Games set in Shelby NC. Filming winds up there this weekend with crews moving onto other areas – mostly the DuPont State Forest and N. Fork Reservoir in Black Mountain.

Filming Begins in The Hunger Games Arena

Picture
The Hunger Games Seal?
Filming of The Hunger Games movie at Shelby, NC,  was due to wrap up yesterday, but it seems it’s going to continue through to the end of the week.  But where to next?  Well it seems the reaping is over and the Hunger Games are about to begin.  Crews are believed to moving into the  DuPont State Forest.

According to a reader over at fellow fansite The Hob, some areas of the Forest are due to be closed, with trails to be shut down for three days beginning this Sunday with further temporary closures scheduled for the early part of June.

In the meantime this picture was taken at the Shelby set.  It looks like the Capitol seal as it appears on the back of the Capitol Coal Car.  So what do you think?  It’s like a strange blend of the Mockingjay, the US national bird the bald eagle, mixed in with the current seal of The United Nations. Not bad really!

Latest Hunger Games Pics Hot Off the Press

Picture
Josh with his blonde hair!
Peeta Mellark is blonde – Josh Hutcherson isn’t (normally).  That’s been a big worry for many Hunger Games fans who felt the choice of Josh Hutcherson to play Peeta in the movie didn’t align with how Peeta was described, or how we imagined.  It seems Josh does have lighter hair as you can see by the pics taken from the set of The Hunger Games in Shelby, NC yesterday.

As one of our readers, Zoe, points out in the comments section below, Prim appears to be wearing a Mockingjay pin on her blouse.  What do you think?  I guess it confirms the rumors we’ve reported on before, that Madge won’t be in the movie and that Katniss gives the pin to Prim as they are getting dressed for the reaping.  It’s believed that Prim then gives it back to Katniss right before she leaves

Meet the new President Snow

Lionsgate Confirms that the Hunger Games is going be made into 4 Films and will be 'the highest selling film they've ever had

Picture
We all know that there’s three books in The Hunger Games series, but Lionsgate executives have confirmed that they expect big things and hope to make FOUR action films that they’ll release from the trilogy.

Deadline is reporting that Lionsgate exec, Joe Drake told Wall Street analysts that The Hunger Games was  ”the highest-selling film we’ve ever had” at the Cannes Film Festival and that overseas exhibitors consider it “the movie that can change their company.”  Drake also says Hunger Games could become an “outsized success” for Lionsgate. The studio says it bought the rights before the books became runaway bestsellers, and it has “retained the majority of the upside” in its talent and distribution deals.

Jennifer Lawrence Officially Cast as Katniss

Picture
At long last, after seemingly endless debate, speculation and rumors, MTV News has received exclusive confirmation that Jennifer Lawrence has landed the highly coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the big-screen adaptation of "The Hunger Games."
According to Lionsgate, the 20-year-old actress is a fitting choice due to her "meteoric ascent" to Hollywood stardom with her Oscar-nominated role in "Winter's Bone," to be followed by roles in Matthew Vaughn's "X Men: First Class" and "The Beaver," directed by Jodie Foster.
"Hunger Games" author Suzanne Collins has already given Lawrence's casting her blessing, via a statement from the studio.
"Jennifer's just an incredible actress," Collins said. "So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never thought we'd find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can't wait for everyone to see her play it."

Director Gary Ross also praised his lead actress: "I'm so excited to work with Jen and see her bring this character to life. Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness, and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades. She's going to be an amazing Katniss."
The movie, based on Susan Collins best seller about children forced to compete in a fight-to-the-death battle, is slated to hit theaters March 23, 2012.
